blogging away in LA

Can't survive a day without music. Living in Los Angeles, it's part of everyday life. This is mine.

Once, pop buzzed with energy. Now, that momentum has been overwhelmed by its past, fueled by reissues, revivals and recycling. Here’s hoping a massive jolt reshapes music’s future.

SSQ - Synthicide

I gotta have my digital fix today

I wasn’t feeling myself that night. I was paranoid. Sweating. It was a hell of a night. It started so peacefully. I was with my pal Joe, driving from Studio City, up and down Coldwater Canyon to Sunset Blvd. to La Brea, down to Wilshire… that’s when the edibles kicked in. In the parking lot, I started to get nervous. Not for our safety, but for the show itself: how is this going to go down? What did I get myself into? What the hell am I about to witness? Why am I here? All these questions starting popping in my mind just as we made our way downstairs to the venue.  The lines outside were tremendous, I have never seen so many strange people before for a concert. Inside the El Rey, I couldn’t stop staring at the beautiful interior design. We found a place to stand near the stage (on some stair-steps, actually) and the show began… and I started tripping, pretty bad.  I shook a lot. I laughed uncontrollably. This was intense, man. Visual and audio collided and my brain was it’s victim. I couldn’t handle it all, so near the end, I tapped out and decided to sit down. I closed my eyes, and next thing I know it was over. I can’t remember their what their last songs were. Ultimately, this was the most surreal concert experience I have ever had in the thirteen years I have been attending live music concerts.

Let’s see if Coachella can top this ;)

I’ll be attendance at The Residents show later tonight, and will have a full write-up tomorrow!
